Practical details to help you prepare for your stay in Shanghai.

Climate

In May, Shanghai generally experiences warm and humid spring weather, with average daytime temperatures ranging between 20–25 °C (68–77 °F). Evenings can be slightly cooler. Expect a mix of sunny and cloudy conditions with occasional rain showers, so a light jacket and an umbrella are recommended.

Clothing

The dress code for ANR 2027 is business casual for all occasions unless stated otherwise.

Language

The official language of the Advances in Neuroblastoma Research Meeting is English.

Time Zone

Shanghai operates on China Standard Time (CST), UTC+8. China does not observe daylight saving time, so the time zone remains the same throughout the year. Please verify the time difference between Shanghai and your home country before travelling.

Electricity

The standard voltage is 220 volts at 50 Hz. Plugs and sockets commonly used are Type A, Type C and Type I. Travellers from countries using different plug types or voltages may need a plug adapter and, in some cases, a voltage converter.

Currency & Exchange

The official currency is the Chinese Yuan Renminbi (CNY / RMB, “¥”). One yuan is divided into 10 jiao or 100 fen. Mobile payments are widely used, while major credit and debit cards are accepted at many hotels, shopping centres and larger establishments — acceptance of international cards may vary at smaller businesses. ATMs are available across the city, including airports, metro stations, hotels and shopping areas.

Tax

Taxes are generally included in displayed prices. China applies several VAT rates, with 13% commonly applied to most goods and reduced rates of 9% or 6% for certain goods and services. Overseas visitors may be eligible for VAT refunds on qualifying purchases at designated tax-refund stores, subject to minimum spending requirements and departure procedures.

Tipping

Tipping is generally not expected in Shanghai and is not a customary part of the local culture. Some upscale restaurants and hotels include a service charge, so an additional tip is usually unnecessary. A small gratuity may be appreciated for exceptional service in international hotels. Taxi drivers and everyday service providers do not normally expect tips.

Letter of Invitation

The Congress Organizer will send a letter of invitation upon request. The Organizing Committee would like to state clearly that the letter is intended to help participants raise travel funds and to support visa applications. It implies no financial obligation on the part of the Conference towards the participant. The Congress Secretariat is only able to issue the letter after receipt of your registration and payment.

Liability & Insurance

The Congress Secretariat and Organizers cannot accept liability for personal accidents, or for loss of or damage to the private property of participants. Upon registration, participants agree that neither the Organizing Committee nor the Congress Secretariat assumes any liability. Participants are advised to take out their own personal travel and health insurance.

Safety & Security

Please do not leave bags or suitcases unattended at any time, inside or outside the session halls. Hotels strongly recommend using their safety deposit boxes for valuables.

Getting around in Shanghai

Shanghai has an extensive public transport network including metro lines, buses, ferries, taxis and airport connections. The metro is generally the most convenient and efficient way to travel around the city, connecting major districts, transport hubs and visitor attractions.

Passengers can purchase single-journey tickets at metro stations, use a Shanghai Public Transportation Card, or pay with eligible contactless international bank cards. The Suishenxing (SH MaaS) app also provides travel planning, real-time information and a QR code that works across the metro, buses and ferries.

Services generally operate from early morning until late evening, although schedules vary by route and station. Please check your journey and the final departure time in advance.
